Sterope participates in CCESC Congress 2026 to foster dialogue between innovation and industry

From 28 to 30 September, Sterope was represented in Madrid at the 6th International Symposium on Catalysis for Clean Energy and Sustainable Chemistry (CCESC26), an international event that brings together researchers, experts, and industry representatives to address technological advances in catalysis, clean energy, and sustainable chemistry. The event, organised by the Institute of Chemical and Environmental Technology (ICP-CSIC), a Sterope partner, aimed to foster exchange between the scientific and industrial communities and explore how catalysis-related technologies can contribute to sustainable development.

During the symposium, Eva Nanaki (HELLENiQ ENERGY), STEROPE Project Coordinator, served as a keynote speaker, presenting “Energy Transition Insights: Integrating Waste to Fuel Innovations for Hard-to-Abate Industries”. In her presentation, she introduced several European innovation projects involving HELLENiQ ENERGY, including STEROPE, and addressed the role that innovative technologies can play in transforming energy-intensive industries that are particularly challenging to decarbonise. The presentation highlighted the need to move from technologies developed through research and demonstration to their application and deployment in industrial environments, emphasising the role of industrial facilities as settings where solutions with scaling potential can be tested, validated, and further developed.

The topics addressed during the presentation are directly linked to Sterope’s work, which aims to advance the production of renewable fuels for maritime transport by integrating carbon capture and utilization (CCU) with green hydrogen. The project is developing and demonstrating a technological pathway to convert captured CO₂ and renewable hydrogen into synthetic fuels, contributing to the exploration of alternative decarbonisation pathways for a sector facing significant technological challenges in reducing its emissions.

Eva Nanaki’s participation placed Sterope within a broader discussion on how low-emission technologies can progress from research and demonstration to real-world industrial applications, bringing together technological innovation, industrial needs and decarbonisation objectives
